Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in that part of the island of Montreal that is known as"the West Island. The West Island has a lot of communities. For those who haven't heard of it often think it is an island that is west-facing. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is often called her birthplace. But she only stayed there for a short duration. Brugel developed on Courtice just outside Oshawa within Ontario. She had a dream to dance but an increase in her height led to her growing beyond the dancers she was with. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. As I got bigger than my male partners, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was an urging from her high school teacher in drama. The teacher encouraged her to try out for roles in her school's production. The audition was successful and she was chosen in the role of Anne of Green Gables. When she was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles on over 60 shows on small and big screens, attracting the greatest attention when she landed the role in the role of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian of the Season 1 cast of the show and seen only occasionally, was the only Canadian.
